Description/Job Summary


Provides and coordinates patient care.
Promotes and restores patients' health by collaborating with dentists, physicians and multidisciplinary team members;
provides physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervises assigned team members.

Responsibilities/Duties

Assist in the sedation/anesthesia process for dental procedures.  
Assists dentists and other health care providers with tasks such as patient examination, minor surgery and diagnostics procedures. 
Performing physical exams to identify any issues that may affect the anesthesia care plan.  
Pre-testing and calibration of anesthesia delivery system and monitors. 
Administering necessary diagnostics and laboratory tests, such as taking blood. 
Patient monitoring of vital signs and record keeping. 
Administering medication to patients. 
Ensuring continuity of care through the pre and post-operative recovery periods.
Assisting with life support where required, including airway management. 
Performing pre-op and post-op telephone calls to patients for education, information collection and confirmation of appointments. 
Assist with pre-anesthesia consults. 
Ordering and stocking of supplies. 
Maintain documentation as it relates to department performance. 
Performing administrative duties, research and clinical instruction.

Required Skills

General knowledge of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act for Registered Nurses. 
General Knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and information control including blood and body fluid precautions.
Ability to perform extensive standing and walking.
Knowledge, skill and ability to perform various medical and nursing procedures and to operate medical equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Skill and ability to interact with the public, health care providers, agencies and facilities.
General knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality of records and communications regarding clients.
 

Required Experience

Currently licensed with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse under Maryland State Law.
Experience with airway management.
Experience with IV access.
Experience with cardiac monitoring.
 

Required Education

Bachelors of Science degree in nursing (BSN), an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN), or a diploma from an approved nursing program and must have successfully completed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and have 2 years related experience.  Experience as an advanced life support provider, and/or experience with pediatrics and patients with disabilities is preferred.
 

Required Qualifications

Currently licensed with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse under Maryland State Law.
Experience with airway management.
Experience with IV access.
Experience with cardiac monitoring.
 

Details

Working hours are generally 8-5. Hours can be flexible. We do not see patients on most federal holidays.
