Description/Job Summary

Provides and coordinates patient care. Promotes and restores patients' health by collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members
providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends and families.


Assist in the sedation process for dental procedures.  
Assists dentists and other health care providers with tasks such as patient examination, minor surgery and diagnostics procedures. 
Confirm patients prior to sedation and give patient instructions before and after sedation. 
Performing physical exams to identify any issues that may affect the anesthesia care plan.  
Pre-testing and calibration of anesthesia deliver system and monitors. 
Preparing the patient to be monitored, using noninvasive and invasive methods, as determined by the physician. 
Administering medication to patients per physician orders. 
Ensuring continuity of care through the post-operative recovery period. 
Assisting with Life support where required, including airway management. 
Performing pre-op and post-op telephone calls to patients for education, information collection and confirmation of appointments. 
Assist with patient consults 
Supply ordering and restocking of supplies 
Maintain documentation as it relates to department performance. 
Performing administrative duties, research and clinical instruction. 
Member of Dental School’s emergency response team to help deal with any medical emergencies that occur within the school.

Required Skills

RN and LPN:
General knowledge of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act for Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses. 
General Knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and information control including blood and body fluid precautions. 
Ability to perform extensive standing and walking. Knowledge, skill and ability to perform various medical and nursing procedures and to operate medical equipment. 
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
Skill and ability to interact with the public, health care providers, agencies and facilities. 
General knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality of records and communications regarding clients.

Knowledge of intravenous therapy including intraosseous infusion and maintenance.
Ability to do peripheral IV access/saline lock/blood draws
Knowledge of peripheral IV maintenance
Ability to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including use of automated external defibrillators.
Ability to provide electrical therapy including automated external defibrillator, cardioversion, and defibrillation.

Required Experience

2 -3 years’ related experience
Experience with advanced airway maintenance for pediatric and adult patients. 
Experience with IV access for pediatric and adult patients

Preferred Experience

Preferred to have Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified. 

Required Education

RN, Bachelors of Science degree in nursing (BSN), an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN), or a diploma from an approved nursing program and must have successfully completed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)

LPN, Completion of a state-approved nursing program and must have successfully completed the National Council Licensure Examination for Licensed Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN)

Paramedic, high school diploma or GED and National Registry of Emergency Technicians (NREMT) certification

Required Qualifications

Currently licensed with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse under Maryland State Law. 
Experience with advanced airway maintenance for pediatric and adult patients. 
Experience with IV access for pediatric and adult patients.
Preferred to have ACLS and PALS certified. 
Paramedic, National Registry of Emergency Technicians (NREMT) certification


Overtime and shift work may be required.
